Customer Reviews about Susan Pasowicz, APNP, FNP-BC

It takes a transcendent customer experience for me to write this detailed, negative review via Google. Previously, I'd only taken to these channels to heap lavish praise on good experiences. In this case, I've come to chronicle the awful, at times absurd experience I've had with Ms. Pasowicz's practice. For those who value brevity: their billing and reporting system is either seriously flawed or institutionally practicing medical billing abuse. Perhaps both. I cannot think of any other way to bridge the wide gap between our respective perceptions of my only appointment. My experience was incredibly poor and I'd advise anyone to avoid doing business with this provider, so as to not run the risk of having what happened to me happening to you. Here's my story: At the time of my appointment, tests that I had taken 48 hours prior weren't entered into the system for Ms. Pasowicz to draw on. Without those results, she was unable to make any conclusion or even so much as an educated guess about what was ailing me -- Salmonella Poisoning as I'd later find out. As these test results were unavailable, likely do to short staffing issues brought on by an upcoming three day weekend, Ms. Pasowicz informed me that there wasn't anything she could do for me. She suggested I schedule an exploratory Colonoscopy for the following Tuesday in the event the results were to come in and yield no clue as to what was ailing me. If there was anything conclusive, I'd be able to cancel the Colonoscopy. A short 15 minutes after my appointment began, I left feeling as though this appointment was a waste of my time. I can't blame Pasowicz for not having access to the tests I'd taken or even make any conclusions about whether she is good at her job. The test result latency was all on Prevea. I CAN blame Pasowicz for the fact that I was billed for a "Level 4:New Patient" appointment. With my insurance, this waste of time was going to cost me nearly $500. It seemed ridiculously expensive for what was an appointment that they should have canceled without adequate information available to do their job properly. One would think, anyway. "Level 4: New Patient" appointments require either: 1. A comprehensive review of the symptoms and history (including test results) of the issue AND a definitive plan of action going forward. OR 2. 45 minutes with a physician. Since my appointment met neither of these criteria, I thought it would be relatively simple to get the bill altered to reflect services that were actually rendered -- this was clearly a Level 1 visit. I thought. To date, I've gone through all the appropriate channels, initiated coding reviews, and gone through a billing advocate -- only to find out Pasowicz's office is standing behind the billing amount. During a surreal conversation with the billing review individual for Prevea, I was informed that HAD my test results been available, Pascowicz WOULD have reviewed them. Therefore the bill was perfectly legitimate in their view. I'm not kidding -- that was the actual rationale as explained to me. To have this bill adjusted to reflect the reality of my appointment has taken 3 hours and counting of my time. I include the time spent learning about coding, being jerked around on the phone, educating myself on common forms of medical billing abuse and fraud, and sending letters of dispute to Prevea and the collection agency they've employed to persuade me to pay them. The weirdest part was 10 weeks ago when I got a call informing me that reviewers HAD found the bill in error and adjusted it in my favor. When the promised paper bill did not arrive within 3 weeks of this call, I inquired as to why that was. I was informed Prevea had no record of any review that admitted error -- or any billing review that had been initiated at all. To prove to myself this call had actually occurred, I called the number that had showed up on my caller ID. Prevea answered, but this review never happened, was not entered into their system, or removed without a trace.
